Acousys Biodevices was formed to develop and commercialize photoacoustic technologies invented by Dr. John Viator. The company is currently focused on detection and capture of circulating melanoma cells in the blood of patients who have previously had surgical excision of primary stages I, II, III malignant melanoma. Dr. Viator has published data showing that analysis of circulating melanoma cells is useful for predicting development of metastatic melanoma. These findings provide an opportunity for earlier treatment of these patients with potentially superior outcomes.
